Disruptive Texts is an independent Canadian publisher established in Guelph, Ontario, in 2025. It publishes literary, philosophical, conceptual and activist works that challenge inherited assumptions, conventional forms and established boundaries of authorship, culture and public thought. Its defining premise is simple: disruption is the product.
Editorial Mandate
Disruptive Texts is interested in work that existing systems struggle to classify. It publishes projects that challenge cultural or institutional assumptions, experiment with form and authorship, examine social, artistic and philosophical questions, introduce unconventional perspectives, and explore personal experience, identity, belief and meaning. Its publications may include fiction, essays, manifestoes, documentary works, philosophical inquiry and hybrid forms that resist conventional genre definitions.
A Publisher of Experimental Ideas
The press is organized around the strength of an idea rather than a particular genre. It is especially interested in projects that move between literature, visual culture, politics, technology, philosophy and institutional critique. Its ambition is to become a leading Canadian publisher of experimental ideas and work for which the broader culture has not yet developed an established language.
Publishing Model
Disruptive Texts combines editorial development, print-on-demand production, international distribution, institutional outreach and public programming. Publications may also extend into exhibitions, lectures, education, digital media, licensing and collaboration. The press views publication as the beginning of a work’s public life rather than its final form.
Purpose
Disruptive Texts exists to publish work capable of changing how a subject is understood and to build a recognizable Canadian cultural enterprise around intellectually rigorous, formally inventive and challenging ideas.
